Finally, the wait is over and we have three new devices by Apple; iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and Watch. The challenging smartphone market has finally compelled Apple to modify its ‘core design’ and popular sizes. The popularity of Android phones with larger display has forced Apple to bring a device with 5.5 inches display. A recent report revealed that 45% of the smartphones shipped in 2013, had 4.5 or larger display. Hence, we come to a decent conclusion that this can be a game-changer for Apple that is already losing market share.
As of July 2014, Apple had only 30.9% market share in USA (the lowest since 2011) while android holds 62.9%. Similarly, android has 83% share in Chinese market and 73% is the Europe. According to ComTech, 17% of Galaxy S5 customers (in USA) are the ones who switched from an iOS device. Having noted this, we come to the conclusion that some latest additions in design and features are owing to the competition.
But what are those changes?
Here are brief specifications of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Changed Design and Outlook:
IPhone 6 has 4.7 (much like 5S) while iPhone 6 Plus has 5.5 inches display. Its power button has been moved to the side while the edges have been marginally rounded making it almost like the first iPhone. iPhone 6 is 6.9mm thick, which makes is the slimmest iPhone ever while iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1 mm thick.
Apple says; “By creating iPhone 6 and iOS 8 together, we optimized the software to enhance the physical design. iOS swipe gestures were designed to be more fluid across the seamless form, making it easy to navigate iPhone with one hand. With new features like Reachability you can interact with the larger screen in different ways, too. Simply double touch the Home button and the entire screen shifts down closer to your thumb. And to easily navigate Safari or Mail, swipe left to right across the screen to go backward, or swipe right to left to go forward. With the new continuous surface of iPhone, all your gestures now feel smoother than ever.”
